The Federal Albanese Labor Government have announced they will cut critical disaster recovery funding all across Australia.

Anthony Albanese’s decision will see millions of dollars of funding ripped away that help our communities get back on their feet following natural disasters.

Councils across our State will be brought to their knees as they are forced to cover this massive cost shift from the Commonwealth.

The Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangement covers everything from evacuation centres to swift-water rescuers, emergency livestock fodder to helping council repair washed away roads.

It is also crucial funding for upgrading infrastructure like bridges to a higher standard, so we don’t see the same piece of infrastructure fail every single natural disaster.

This would be dire for local government’s like Cook Shire Council which has a population of 5,000 residents and suffers a natural disaster, on average, every seven months.

Cook Shire Council could potentially be on the hook for millions of dollars currently covered by the Commonwealth.

The story would be the same at councils right across the country, and it’s simply not possible to sustain.

Australians have a tiny window to stop this disastrous change and protect the framework that has served Australia so well over the last decade.
