The Z Special Unit Memorial on K'gari (Fraser Island) honours the courage and sacrifice of the men who served in the secretive Z Special Unit during World War II.
The memorial site features a small monument, along with concrete remnants of the original camp including foundations and rusted machinery, as well as interpretive signs explaining its role in preparing elite forces for jungle and amphibious warfare.
As an important site of Australian military history, the memorial deserves to be preserved and upgraded to ensure it remains a fitting place of remembrance, reflection and education for future generations.
Improvements to the memorial, signage, accessibility and surrounding area would help recognise the legacy of those who served.
